Robert Vining Makes it Happen at Milwaukee!

The Outlaw Late Model Series at OSRL is now in it's second season, and with a whole new crop of really fast drivers. Week in and week out, it can be anyone's race to win. As the series headed to the Milwaukee Mile this week, patience would be the key to laying down a fast time in qualifying. With the top 3 in points sitting out qualifying, the 17 of Doug Gunning took advantage by posting the fastest time to secure his first pole of the 2008-D season. The 51 of Brian Roberts, 11 of Frank Albert, 0 of David Hart and 48 of Joe Wilson rounded out the top 5 starting spots.

As the race got underway, it wouldn't be long before the first caution flew, letting the 11 of Frank Albert take over the lead from Doug Gunning who pitted for tires after a self spin. With no damage, Doug was able to recover quickly and soon was up front battling for the lead before the halfway point of the race. With the wide racing surface at the Milwaukee Mile, 3 wide action was the norm for most of the night. Several drivers took a turn at the front of the field, including 51 Brian Roberts, 10 Eric Papineau, 555 Don Colbath, 11 Frank Albert and the 17 of Doug Gunning.

When the laps wound down, it became a 7 man race for the top 5 positions, with the 6 of Robert Vining leading the most laps with 94, but was shadowed by the 555 of Don Colbath for most of the night. The 2 of Josh Grove finished a solid 3rd, with the 10 of Eric Papineau in 4th and the 4 of Tommy Patton coming home 5th. Doug Gunning and Frank Albert rounded out the lead lap cars, with Brian Roberts, Steven Littrell and David Hart rounding out the top 10.

The OSRL Outlaw Series continues to produce excellent side by side racing week and week out. The OSRL Officials announced this week that starting at Ace Speedway next week, drivers will be allowed to run aids such as steering assist and stability for the remainder of the 2008-D season. This, along with the addition of several new drivers to the OSRL driver roster, should produce even bigger fields with less cautions. Personally I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season!

Another great race is in the books, and Robert Vining found victory lane for the first time in the 2008-D season as he takes over the lead in the points as well. While this can be a good thing, it means he, along with the entire top 3 in points will start from the rear of the field next week at Ace Speedway!
